Arrest Made in Cape San Blas Vehicle Burglaries

Gulf County Sheriff Mike Harrison announces the arrest of a seventeen year old Franklin County juvenile in connection with several vehicle burglaries that occurred in the Cape San Blas area during the weekend of July 16, 2016. It was reported to the GCSO that five firearms were stolen along with a Yeti Cooler, a video camera, and several pairs of Costa Del Mar sunglasses from unsecured vehicles belonging to vacationers.
After receiving a tip from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) investigators the seventeen year old Franklin County juvenile was developed as a suspect. On July 18, 2016, during the early morning hours the juvenile was subsequently stopped by a GCSO deputy after receiving a suspicious person complaint in the Cape San Blas area.
Through further investigation the juvenile was interviewed by investigators and gave an admission to being involved in the vehicle burglaries at Cape San Blas. A search of the juvenile’s home in Apalachicola was conducted. The search revealed the juvenile was in possession of one of the stolen firearms, the Yeti Cooler, the video camera and two pairs of Costa Del Mar sunglasses. A witness provided information to investigators that the juvenile threw one of the stolen firearms out of the vehicle when pulled over by GCSO on July 18, 2016. A search of that road side area was conducted and a .45 caliber handgun was recovered. The owner of the firearm was identified and confirmed it had been stolen out of their vehicle while vacationing in Cape San Blas.
Investigators obtained pick up orders charging the juvenile with four counts of Burglary of a Conveyance and three counts of Grand Theft.

On Thursday, August 18, 2016, the juvenile surrendered himself to the GCSO. The juvenile was arrested and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). This investigation continues with more charges expected.
